Behold!
The dusty greens
and powdered purples
of the Wild West Riding,
painted blearyeyed,
first thing and wincing
after a heavy night
on the Landlord.

Gnarled skeletons of trees
gesticulate obscurely
yet somehow rudely,
while in the middledistance
a Hornby toy train
glides on
to "Skipton -
Gateway to the Dales".

Everywhere
is a gateway
to Somewhere,
tha knows.
