Luce Bay, Sunday Morning
Luce Bay at Stairhaven, looking south west towards the Mull of Galloway. Picture by B.R. |
4:30am
Where the lighthouse shines across the bay
there's a cottage kissed by spume and spray
Above it floats the ghost of Conrad Veidt
hovering like a buzzard in the dead of night
7:30am
At Sandhead
caravans congregate
and pray to Don Amott
while Dire Straits cassettes
unspool themselves
and hurl themselves into the sea
in ritual surrender
10:30am
The tide recedes over the sand
with a magician's flourish
like some almighty sleight of hand
(enough to make Paul Daniels shake
his cueball noggin in disbelief)
to reveal the debris
from the mermen's party
King Neptune is dethroned
Come home my love
Come home dear love
Come home
