the soundz of love
What are these life-affirming sounds of love
that our ears are continually cocked for;
that are borne on the teasing breeze
from Tooting, Tallahatchie and Tadcaster?
Phat bass can move mountains.
Heavy rockin' sex can link the twinkling stars.
Likewise bats, the sleepy sighs of cats
and the broken croaks of tipsy folks in bars.
Birds in full tweet wake up the funking street,
singing "Pump Up the Volume" by M|A|R|R|S.
But Hark! List!
What is this mellifluous melody?
Small and subliminal,
it starts with a solo bassoon...
other instruments pick up the tune
and before long, the variations begin.
They insinuate into your brain
and take you back in time,
like a Worth Valley steam train.
If music really is the food of love,
if Milady is a veritable song thrush,
if Milord is a man with a whopping huge horn,
then the gong has just gone for luncheon
and Walnut the ancient butler is bringing in the nosebags...
