The Maungy Badger's Calendar

January is the month of diets,
when magpies are just mags.
February sees beagles backtracking
on packing in the fags.
Statues of headless horses
march blindly on to Rome.
Dodging sundry April showers,
red pandas pack up and go home.
Come what may, Miss Marjorie Mantis
prays all her days and nights away.
June Whitfield's raccoons, in their rad pantaloons,
dance an unending, unbending ballet.

Undercover, Brian Plover
dreads Wimbledon in July.
Come August, flocks of custard birds
cluster in the honey nut sky.
In wet September, adders take themselves away,
on holidays they go.
In October Guy Giraffe needs no ladder
to clean his top window.
In November (and off his rocker),
a quokka drinks a mocha then transmutes.
Avec Anteater and Dec, embers of festive fires
melt a dangling Santa's boots.

Year in, year out, you and me...
We're just a couple of old coots.
