Desert Road
(A poem about the Rangipo Desert in New Zealand. Dedicated to Aaron Huggett.)
Just like Steven Spielberg's Duel,
there's a slow, steady climb
up a dusty 45º incline,
then Down Down, like the Quo we go
between advancing pylons ~
transfers of Tripods
stuck to the windows.
New beginnings.
A verdant overture.
Kiwi men trade in their spouses
at the National Trout Centre.
