A Rainy Day (In Shipley Town)

A rainy day in Shipley town
Drives me back inside my home.
I sit and listen to the drone
As Nico plays harmonium.

How long can this thing last?
I wrestle shadows of the past.
Ducks are duelling down in Roberts Park
To bag a berth in Noel's Ark.

Is it part of God's mysterious plan
To drown all the freaks and start again?
See them slumming and bumming downtown
In ladies apparel
With scarves wrapped tight around them,
To conceal a Black Forest of beard.
Or dancing and prancing on a street corner
To sick music that no one can hear.
