What Is This Thing You Earthlings Call Love?

Love drives the wolf from the door
Love drives your mum to the airport
Love lifts you up on gossamer wings
Love is a many-splendored ting
like a bag of Liquorice Allsorts

Love frees up the soul
Love opens up the prison
Love brings light and hope to us all
that love is constant, eternal
It  keeps going just like John Chisum

Love is the gaffer, love is the boss
Love gets the mountain moved
Love soothes the savage beast
(or is it breast?
Well, one of them gets soothed)

Love brings the kettle to the boil
Love thickens up the custard
Love is oh so bitchin'
steaming up the kitchen
You'd better believe it, buster

SHAHNA: Yes, this is all very well Jim but I don't think you've really answered my question. I still don't feel as if I know what love is. What IS love?

James T. Kirk proceeds to spend the next ten minutes trying to show Shahna exactly what love is, as fully and comprehensively as possible within the time available, with the aid of pie charts and a globe artichoke. After he takes his leave of her and is beamed aboard the Enterprise, she looks up at the sky...

SHAHNA: Goodbye, Jim Kirk. I will learn. And watch the lights in the sky. And remember.
