Ken Masters Day

As you are doubtless aware, today is Ken Masters Day - the day when fans of the BBC's (ahem) flagship yachting drama Howard's Way descend on marinas up and down the country to give thanks and praise for one of the most devilish, debonair and dastardly characters to ever cut a dash across the small screen - Kenneth Masters. KM was Howard's Way's J. R. Ewing: a brash medallion man, as ruthless between the sheets as he was in pursuit of furthering his shady business interests. Nobody else could have breathed life into this seasoned horn dog quite like the magnificent Stephen Yardley, one of the finest thespians ever to emerge from Harrogate, there can be no debate.

Join us now (I insist) as we make our own small tribute in pictures to the Masterman. Let's set sail with this - it seems to distil the very essence of the man. Ken is the one holding the phone, by the way.

Observe how the Kenly flesh, the phone and the hair of the lucky lady are all perfectly co-ordinated. It's a powerful composition, brooding but tender. Dawn has the love light in her eyes - she's so smitten with her beau that she actually seems content to lay back on the kind of hideous striped bed clothing one would have expected to find in the stinking lair of a 14-year-old boy at that time.
This next picture shows a totally different side to our Ken:

He's back in the office. He's on it. The sleeves are rolled up and he means business, by damme. The colour of the phone suggests some inner turbulence, but he maintains a calm exterior. If pushed, he might mutter some oath under his breath about "the Mermaid bloody boatyard" but that's it.
And finally, I think this might be my favourite:

You may be able to tell that Ken wasn't particularly happy about being snapped here. It was Top Cat Day at work and he'd paid his 50p, dusted off his white turtleneck sweater and come as Choo-Choo. The faithful Dawn aka Officer Dibble is at his side.
