The Washing Machine Ozymandias
The washing machine Ozymandias
has been pumped so full of Calgon
it has outlived, by many centuries,
all of its nearest contemporaries:
generations of Bosch,
entire dynasties of Zanussi.
Now it hovers, Zardoz-like,
above the rusting drums
of Hotpoint twin tubs
in abandoned neighbourhoods
of dead and dying white goods.
For "Mandi" there will be
no final spin cycle.
Just a shrieking cacophony
for the rest of eternity.
