Poem for William Shatner
(1st Nonagenarian in Space)
I get up at 4 each morning,
put the Hoover round the Enterprise's many bathrooms,
mop all the Holodecks,
top up the dilithium crystals,
clean out the shitters in the Klingon prison wing.
The things I have seen cannot be unseen.
I'm a "senior cleaner"
on the edge of a far-flung galaxy.
Lieutenant Sulu plots a course
round my yellow wet floor signs,
boldly upholding health & safety
as we race through space and time.
