Take the Stairs

You may take the lift

but I shall take the stairs.

On the days when I feel lazy

I imagine there are bears,

chasing me.

If a place is worth getting to:

the peak of Ben Nevis,

the menswear department of M&S,

the foyer-cum-gift shop of Heaven

or a remote tea room in Devon,

you probably ought (I reckon)

to put some effort in.

The lift doors are standing open

but the lift is full of bears*

so strap on your crampons

and prepare for the stairs.
